The Dough Bowl Abstractions series came about from painting on uncommon substrates, such as wooden trays. I saw some dough bowls at a vintage and antique mall and suddenly wanted to paint the bowls’ interiors. The juxtaposition of the rustic dough bowl and modern art really spoke to me. I wanted to blend the two to create something that not only honours the past, but also brings it into the present and future.
